Carillon

Composed: 2016

Performed by: The Quarter-Sized Tuba Quartet

Parts: 4 Euphoniums or Trombones

Duration: ~2:45

Difficulty: 5/10

Inspired from the bells of the Century Tower at the University of Florida that ring every fifteen minutes, "Carilllon" is a short, energetic piece that outlines the beauty of the tower itself, especially during the winter season. The Century Tower is 157 feet tall, has 67 bells, and can be heard from up to a quarter-mile away. During the Christmas season, it plays beautiful Christmas tunes and serenades the ambient atmosphere. To capture those moments, "Carillon" begins with a bell-tone motif that is omnipresent throughout the duration of the entire piece and has themes that are reminiscent of the holiday season. Overall, it is magical, majestic, and quite a fun piece to play.
