Insomnia

Composed: 2015

Parts: 2 Flutes, Oboe, Clarinet in Bb, Bass Clarinet, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax

Duration: ~3:30

Difficulty: 7/10

Inspired from a few semesters of lacking sleep as a music major, "Insomnia" is a piece for woodwind choir that explores the tonal thresholds of complex harmonies that are reminiscent of agonizing sleeplessness. This was my final project for Composition Skills 3, which expanded my horizons as a tonal composer and crossed the realms into atonal harmony, brash dissonance, and vector sets of notes. Imitation compliments the central theme throughout the piece, where the triplet signifies the core melody that is passed around all of the instruments throughout the piece.
