I. Spring Rain

Composed: 2015

Performed by: TBA

Parts: SATB or SSAA w/ piano

Duration: ~3:30

Difficulty: 5/10

The first composition in Three Poems by Sara Teasdale is "Spring Rain", a nostalgic lyric poem written about how the spring rain that is occuring in the season reminds the poet of her love for another man that she sees no more; the poem is simple in message, yet powerful in language, creating vivid imagery using metaphoric observations of the weather to heighten the extent of her internal hopelessness. The music portrays that sense of longing through a beautiful piano accompaniment that establishes the mood of the song, and dissonant minor chords open up to bright major chords to demean and shape the descriptive adjectives used.
